Gilly Smith and Jed Novick are a couple of professional writers and academics who open their rural home and gardens near Lewes for long weekend writers' retreats, creative dinner parties, providing a liminal space to think
"A sumptuous, heart-warming house, a pair of beautiful young waitresses serving wine, a collection of interesting-looking fellow ‘rabbits' and an air of respect hanging in the room for the inspiration we all share and the courage to engage with that and step out of our individual comfort zones."

Whether you're feasting with us, staying for the weekend in the house, camping in the paddock in our modern geo-yurt or your own tent, or simply renting a quiet place to finish your novel, you'll leave inspired, refreshed and if you haven't already finished your oevre, ready to write...
The evenings are a feast of local produce shared not just with fellow retreaters but often with local poets, authors or artists - and a firepit under a starry Sussex sky if the weather allows. Wake up in the middle of nowhere and spend your afternoons walking through woods so old you'll forget that you ever saw a city.
A Bloomsbury set for the 21st century where your muse would beg you to play...
"Philip (Carr-Gomm) was great, really inspiring, and obviously passionate about life and his beliefs. It was an enormous relief to have a feeling of connection and community that was beyond words!"
"Read the historians, from Heroditus down to our own day, and you'll see that there has never been a great event, not even excepting conspiracies , which was not conceived, worked out and organised over a meal".
Tell stories into the night with your fellow retreaters....
"An evening of shared thoughts and ideas that went on into the wee hours"
Lots of people have asked us if they can just come and camp in our paddock, maybe stopping in for a bit of supper with us to chew the cud or to discuss their latest oevre. So we've decided that yes you can treat us like a chambre d'hote or as mentors/sounding boards as long as you're nice. We're not a camp site, but we do like a party. We've got our own tents which we've made into little writing retreats, complete with tables and chairs, fluffy rugs and cuddly duvets.
Lim-in-al...such a lovely word. Its paradoxical elements mean that it's about tension and release, about letting go and being lost. Come on, dive on in.
