A luxury, all-inclusive writing retreat with leading crime writer, Leigh Russell. Set in the stunning Chateau de la Motte Henry, in the Pays de la Loire, France.
Explore your creativity in our unique Chateau setting - cut off from the world and all its stresses, immersed in nature and surrounded by wildlife. You will stay in luxurious, boutique style accommodation and enjoy delicious homemade food. There will be plenty of time to focus on your own work, relax in our grounds and explore the charm, beauty and heritage of the Pays de la Loire.
Leigh Russell has written nearly 30 books and writes the internationally bestselling Geraldine Steel series, as well as psychological thrillers, dystopian and historical novels. She looks forward to hosting you and guiding your creative writing, exploring your ideas and frustrations, in a group and 1-1. You will leave with fond memories and a clear understanding of how to reach your potential as a writer.
The Chateau is accessed by two main staircases, though a ramp can be made available for those in wheelchairs. We have the ability to accommodate guests on the ground floor of the Gites, in the quadrangle, next to the Gym, Pool and Lake. This beautiful cottage is self contained with its own bathroom, kitchenette and lounge / bedroom area. It is only a short walk of about 100 yards from the Chateau and can accommodate further guests in 3 upstairs bedrooms. Those with accessibility needs looking to come to the Chateau should contact us in advance of booking to ensure that we can accommodate them.
We operate a sustainable travel policy, through which we offset the carbon cost of your travel to and from the Chateau. We also incentivise sustainable travel by train and car sharing schemes. On site, we utilise locally sourced produce, direct from farmers wherever possible, drawing upon the thriving local agricultural community in the 'garden' of France. We also aim to reduce our carbon footprint at the Chateau, with a renewable energy program in place, to move increasingly to renewable energy sources and self-sustaining woodland management, providing heat and electricity to our buildings and facilities. In 2021/22 we are installing air source heat pumps to serve the pool and relaying our running trail with woodchips from felled Oak trees on site that are either unhealthy or diseased.
