A wonderful retreat encouraging you to live a healthy and adventurous lifestyle. The week follows a program of dedicated fitness classes but throws in adventures to allow you to soak up the most fantastic Greek island and culture.
This retreat is perfect for somebody that loves to keep active, but also lives life on the adventurous side. With your own dedicated bicycle for the week, you are thoroughly encouraged to get out and about in an eco-friendly way, but we will take you on some guided adventures too, by bike and foot.
The accommodation for the retreat is radiating Greek culture. It is set in the Asklipion Valley, stone throws away from the Asklipion itself, the birth of the Hippocratic Oath.
Each day has a fantastic new adventure waiting for you, waking up to a sunrise yoga or Pilates session, or heading off on a hike to the highest point on the Island. There will be a fitness class available for you to attend, some days will have 3 classes. There will also be planned activities if you choose to take part, these are a bike ride to the natural springs in Therma, where you can take some time to relax in therapeutic waters before cycling back, there is the incredible hike up Dikeos to see the ultimate views and there is an additional activities day (not included in the price) where you can choose from the following; Horse Riding, Stand Up Paddleboard Yoga, Windsurfing, Traditional Hamam, or your own adventure.
Kos is one of the most loved islands of the Dodecanese
Island is known as “The island of Hippocrates” for having given birth to the most famous doctor in history.
Kos is 43 km long and 2 km wide at the narrowest point, up to a maximum of 6 km at its widest point. It is the third island of the Dodecanese for size and the second for population. Its close proximity to the coasts of Turkey and more precisely to the ancient city of Halicarnassus, now known as Bodrum, makes it particularly fascinating as it offers an interesting combination of eastern and western elements. Even though Kos is known for its tourism, it has done well in maintaining its soul. Escaping from the tourists is easily done, and you will always manage to find a hidden away beach.
Kos City is not a city you see in the UK or across Europe, it is however a lively tourist town, rich in history as well as bars, Greek taverns and narrow streets with shops. Kos town has beautiful beaches sheltered from the wind and is the most requested tourist resort on the island. Nearby there are several villages with a traditional soul such as Platani, Pili, Zia and Asomatos. A short distance away are the thermal baths of Kos, a natural swimming pool renowned for its sulphurous water and the archaeological site “Asklepion”, the most important site of the island of Kos. Just a stones throw away from the Asklepion itself is the extraordinary location of our incredible Hippocrates Fitness and Wellness Retreats.
Incredible places worth a visit
Known villages are Tigaki, Marmari and Mastihari in the northern part of the island, these are mainly tourist resorts that offer good services but most importantly long sandy beaches. Towards the south of Kos there is the small village of Kardamena, a place that in recent years is particularly frequented by families, but also couples of young people, in search of tranquillity and crystal clear sea. Kefalos, however, has to be the gem of southern Kos. It is known to be the most authentic and peaceful place, as well as boasting the most beautiful beaches on the island of Kos. Beaches are mostly wide and sandy, but you can also find bays and rocky coves with amazing sea colours.
From April to November, a period during which the rains are very rare, the island offers a Mediterranean climate of excellence that gives the possibility to fully enjoy the sea and many sunny days.
At the same time there is a summer wind present that allows even the high temperatures feel much more comfortable, enabling everyone to stay fairly active through the hotter months. There is a small chance of rain in the months of September and October, but this usually disperse within a few hours.
We are located at The Asklipion Valley Guest House approximately 4.5km away from Kos Town. The Guest house is set in stunning gardens with incredible sea and mountain views, the perfect setting to wind down. Each studio/apartment is uniquely different but with a fantastic traditional Greek design. The owner of the guest house is an incredibly talented local artist and has made the guest house extremely welcoming. Each studio/apartment comes equipped with basic cooking facilities for the days you do not fancy eating with the group (however, 3 meals a day will be provided). Some of the rooms have terraces/balconies allowing you to enjoy your morning coffee/tea in private (if you wish) and all have private bathrooms.
A bike ride to the Islands natural spa/springs. Therma beach is located area and about 10km from Kos town. Therma is exceptional, due to the hot water coming from the mountain which is beneficial for visitors. The hot springs are a real treasure containing elements such as Potassium, Sodium, Calcium, Magnesium, Sulfur and Chlorine ideal treatments for rheumatism, arthritis and any gynecological related issues. The beach and its hot springs were discovered in 1934 by the Italian archaeologist Laourentsi. The Bike ride itself is approximately 30km there and back, it takes you down some magical roads and it will be taken at a pace that is comfortable or challenging enough for you.
A Hike to the highest point of the island, Dikeos mountain. Dikeos is the highest mountain of Kos, the highest peak is 846m. Dikeos is located more or less south of Kos town, about 15km away. On the northern slopes of Dikeos you will find Zia, the most picturesque village of the island. The southern slopes are steep and bare, the northern slopes gradually run down and are covered with forests. The northern slopes must be among the most spectacular landscapes on the island. Here a natural park is also located, the Kos Natural Park. On the top of Dikeos Mountain, above Zia, you will find the historic chapel dating from the year 1079, dedicated to Dikeos Christos. You will have incredible views of the surrounding Islands and Turkey.
The retreat is not suitable for those unable to cycle or hike or engage in physical activities, however provisions can be made for some disabilities, contact us directly to discuss whether we can accommodate you sufficiently.
We fully support an eco-friendly environment, one being your primary mode of transport for the week is either bicycle or foot. We also encourage recycling and a minimal plastic approach. We fully discourage the use of single use plastic, and your host will be talking a lot about her journey with natural products and giving you the local knowledge on where to find the best natural products on the island including skin care and foods, you may even find a little natural gift in your welcome pack.
