Everyone is very welcome whether coming on your own or with friends.
Retreat Features and Activities
Fly into Lisbon or Porto and enjoy a weekend there in the charming cities or by the beach before heading up to the mountains with all the other guests by coach to our local town of Oleiros, where we will pick everyone up by car on arrival.
The retreat is nestled in the remote foothills of the stunning Serra da Estrela mountains of central Portugal. A 10 acre site with 2 rivers running through, it is surrounded on all sides by miles of uninhabited forest. The perfect place to get away from the stresses of modern city living and immerse into the healing tranquillity of nature.
The retreat is in the family home of the Winter family who found the old abandoned farm in 2007 while on a year's journey round southern Europe with their young children and golden retriever called Moses. There are 4 restored stone houses, half a dozen big glamping Belle tents and a yoga shala made of wood and glass that floats over the kitchen gardens with inspiring views up and down the valleys.
A range of options from private double farmhouse bedrooms, shared places in stone cottages and Soulpad belle tents.
Most of the day on retreat, when not practicing yoga, eating 3 meals a day or having a massage treatment, you'll be outside wandering through forest paths.
Sunday afternoon arrival from Lisbon at 5pm or from Porto at 8.30pm. Sundays are just to arrive, settle into your accommodation, meet the team and the others on your group and have dinner together.
We always have a wide variety of people of different ages and yoga experience. In 2017 we had folk visit us from over 60 countries. A multinational and multi age group. Always the loveliest of people too.
One afternoon in the week we head off to the nearby Rio Zêzere for a wild swim and mud bath weather permitting.
Friday evening party with music and dancing
Saturday check out 7am for 8am coach to Porto or Lisbon. O r playing with the dogs and piglet in the natural river pools.
Climbing and hiking into the nearby peaks and rocky mountain outcrops with Christian a swiss mountain guide living in our local village.
Sometimes despite our better efforts to look after ourselves the batteries run low. The back aches, the knees creak, we suffer headaches, stomach problems, become de-motivated, crabby or may suffer insomnia; all signs of the body, spirit, soul and mind asking for help. Touch is the most vital of ways to heal ourselves, and the touch of a professional can sometimes be exactly what we need to get us back on track. Your retreat includes a half hour health consultation, followed by 1 hour of body harmonising massage or Acupuncture. You can choose the most appropriate additional treatments from those listed here in your consultation with one of our experienced professional bodywork therapists. Additional therapies are available for 80€ per 90 minute session.
You won't be hungry; we're feeders!
We lovingly prepare three delicious and nutritious vegetarian/vegan meals every day. Fresh vegetables, salads and fruit available from our own or our neighbours' gardens during the season and from our favourite local greengrocers in Oleiros.
Rich in pulses and grains, low in salt and high in fresh herbs and spices. Honey from local wild bees is preferred over sugar.
Our chefs this year, Raul from Spain and Miguel from Portugal, bring a passion and joy to their cooking. They both have years of experience with vegetarian and vegan food in a variety of restaurants and settings around the world. Their fusion of ingredients, spices and flavours, according to the principles of Ayurveda, mean every dish is not only tasty but also easy to digest.
Private bedroom in farmhouse with accessible bathroom next door, both with wheelchair access and facilities.
Recycling 98% of all waste. Seasonal organic fruit and veggies grown on site. Soil creation programme from total composting of all organic matter.
