Welcome to Original Hideaways. Previously a working mill, the properties and surrounding environment have been thoughtfully renovated and transformed, while retaining character and charm, to allow you to step away from the busyness of every day life.
At the heart of the site is the 250-year-old Mill House - complete with the original cogs and grinding stones - which is one of four accommodation properties offering a collective of 14 super or king-size en-suite bedrooms, cosy living spaces and private dining facilities. Overlooking the site is the event space, the Grain Loft, which boasts a spacious studio with breathtaking views of the historic Welsh hills.
It's the ideal setting for adventure, holistic and wellbeing retreats, workshops, location shoots and corporate events.
The Grain Loft
A fully flexible space available for day hire or as part of a residential retreat, the Grain Loft has the scope and universal facilities to host any type of experience. With its high ceilings and significant windows, the views are incredible, from what is the most elevated position of the site. It also has a fully equipped kitchen, office and a separate area for break-out activities.
In addition to the downstairs event space there is a fully equipped apartment upstairs, with a zip-link super-king bed which can be 2 large singles, a living area with double sofa bed, en-suite and kitchen. This is ideal for the host/practitioner and/or team or of course further bedrooms to sell as part of your retreat/event.
Mill House, Hay Barn & Hall House
Our accommodation features 14 king-size en-suite bedrooms – we can accommodate 14 people based on single occupancy rooms, or 30 people based on shared beds and 1 sofa bed. All bedrooms have been lovingly created, with the highest quality craftsmanship and materials, while the en-suite bathrooms have been thoughtfully designed, with individual designs in the Mill House and a beautiful scheme in the Hay Barn. In the Hall House it has been carefully decorated to match its medieval architecture and contemporary furniture.
Piggeries
Once a home for the Mill House cart horse, pigs and sheep, the Piggeries is now a warm, homely, communal space for our guests, which is accessed via an oak framed covered walkway from the Mill House. Brick-lined with a stone-coloured tiled floor, complete with a large wood burning stove, it offers a stunning dining area and cosy bar for memorable mealtimes.
Around the site
Other facilities on site include a treatment room, set up with towels and a massage table, ready for relaxation to commence. Outside, the Grain Loft offers an al fresco Argentine grill area for cooking up a summer feast, and the Meadow Terrace provides an outdoor location for yoga and wellbeing activities with view of the surrounding ancient hills. There’s also a Welsh-made wood-fired sauna with a outdoor shower and steps down to the river Trannon, as well as a fire pit located just outside the Mill House garden, near the orchard.
Natural beauty
The retreat location is set in 10 acres of private land and adjacent to our 150-acre working farm, and it’s a haven for people and nature to thrive as one. From the top of the valley, where the cattle grazes gracefully, to the wooded areas where the badgers burrow and the buzzards fly high – the surrounding land allows you to explore, reconnect and rewild. Our land includes a three-acre conservation area of rewilded woodland that hasn’t been touched for over 75 years. Home to badgers, foxes, otters, native flora and fauna, it is a peaceful area of nature with the river Trannon running by its side, and it’s open for guided woodland walks.
Our family
No farm retreat in Mid Wales would be complete without sheep, and we have a flock of 19 beautiful Shropshire Pedigrees on site. We also have seven Pygmy goats, two ponies and our little sausage dog Coco – all of whom bring added life and laughter to your experience at Original Hideaways.
We dreamt for many years of wanting to share our land and to create a destination where people can do their thing, practice their craft, share their passion and knowledge in tailor-made day events and residential retreats. And we now offer just that – providing the venue for you to host your experience and welcome your guests.

The event space at The Grain Loft is fully accessible with wheelchair friendly gardens, ramps and an accessible toilet on the ground floor. We are a steeping sloping site so access to the lower part of the site, where the accommodation is located, will be via car. The Mill House has an accessible bedroom on the ground floor, with accessible gardens at the rear.
We take our footprint on this planet seriously and we care deeply about the land, as our family has lived and farmed our location since 1945. The 10 acres of fields that surround the retreat venue are organic and free of any pesticides. We have renewable energy on-site, including solar panels; our utility suppliers provide green energy, and our tariffs guarantee renewable energy only. We have more than 10,000 litres of rainwater harvesting on-site for all external irrigation. We’ve sourced our materials throughout the build of the retreat location from local suppliers, and we encourage collaboration with local suppliers for the delivery of any retreats and events that are hosted at the venue.

Original Hideaways is situated in rural, authentic Mid Wales. But it’s well connected. The nearest train station is Caersws, which is under two hours from Birmingham and just one change from London Euston. Closest airports are Manchester or Birmingham for international or domestic flights. Private air journeys land at Welshpool which is a 30-minute drive. Collection from Caersws train station can be arranged in the farm Land Rover or a more executive car is also available.
